COST-STMS-FA0605-7421 Danguole Kazlauskiene

Short Term Scientific Mission COST-STMS-FA0605-010111-004407

Grantee: Kazlauskiene Danguole, Nature Research Centre

Host: Matusikova Ildiko, Institute of Plant Genetics and Biotechnology

Period: from January 1 - January 29th 2010, Nitra

Topic: Plant stress responses against environmental stresses

The purpose of the visit was to communicate expertise transfer between the home and host research groups in order to complement the method repertoire used by both the partners.

Rapeseed plantlets were exposed to cold, heavy metal pollution and combination of these stress types while frozen material for further studies was obtained.

The visiting scientist in cooperation with the researchers at the host institute gained knowledge and training in several biochemical analyses for detection of stress signs or identifying defense reactions in plants. At the same time a data set was already obtained that is currently being analyzed. The analysis of the rest of the (frozen) material will serve as a starting point for joint research activities in future since they can be complemented with analyses in that the partner laboratory possess expertise. It is also envisaged to extend the study and find finances for joint research activities. Both the partners judge the mission highly positively both from personal as well as professional view, and highly appreciate the opportunity to establish a collaborative link between the two research groups.

We would like to give our special thanks to the COST office for enabling this mission.
