1. Summary of work to be allocated into a specific WG
This partner is using molecular and genetic approaches to uncover signaling pathways and intermediates mediating low temperature reponse in Arabidopsis. This work is mainly integrated into WP2.
2. Links with other WGs and/or Subgroups
The work is also linked with WG1.1 and WG4.3 to study the role of SnRK1/2 kinases and polyamines in cold signaling, respectively.
3. Specific activities to be integrated into WG and/or Subgroups
WG2.1: Development of novel genetic approaches to identify new factors controlling cold tolerance.
WG2.2: Analysis of cross-talk between cold and other stress signaling pathways.
WG2.4: Identification and characterization of new signaling factors controlling cold-regulated transcription.
WG1.1: To characterize the regulatory role of SnRK1/2 kinases in cold response.
WG4.3: To determine the role of polyamines in freezing tolerance and cold acclimation.
4. Qualification for the role and current grants
Julio Salinas is Professor at the Plant Biology Department of the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas-CSIC in Madrid. He has more than 20 years of experience in studying the molecular mechanisms that control plant response to abiotic stresses, mainly low temperature. The work in his lab is currently funding by different national grants.
5. Technical expertise and facilities
This partner will provide experience in plant molecular biology and genetics. In addition, he will contribute with his expertise to determine plant tolerance to different abiotic stresses, including dehydration, high salt and low temperature. The laboratory, as well as the Centro de Investigaciones Biologicas, have all the equipements and facilities to develop the work allocated.
