This partner is using biochemical and physiological methods in a research of proline and sacharides accumulation in variuos oilseed rape genotypes under influence of abiotic stress (cold, drought..). The work is mostly integrated in WG4.

4. Qualification for the role and current grants

Virgilija Gavelienė is Senior Scientist Researcher at the Laboratory of Plant Physiology of the Nature Research Centre (Lithuania). She many years was  investigated  the effect of auxin physiological analogues on the peculiarities of oilseed rape growth, morphogenesis, embryogenesis and productvity formation. In recent years she is studing the role of cold stress protective compounds - proline and sacharides on different winter rape varieties. Her work is currently financed by two national grants from the Lithuania State Science and Studies Fundation.

5. Technical expertise and facilities

This partner will provide the experienses on plant tissue culture, determination of physiological and biochemical traits like: growth and development, yield, content of carbohydrates and proline. The laboratory has many equipments to carry out the work allocated
